Zimbabwe's Amon Murwira advocates for deeper SADC integration and regional self-reliance

He emphasized the philosophy of Ubuntu, advocating for SADC as a family bound by shared destiny, not just geographical proximity. Murwira highlighted four pillars for SADC's future: Peace and Security, Industrialisation, Infrastructure Development, and Social and Human Capital. He called for a shift from planning to implementation, specifically urging the removal of trade barriers to foster industrialization and transform raw materials into wealth.

He also stressed the importance of financial sovereignty through the Regional Development Fund, efficient movement of goods for health and social welfare initiatives like the SADC Pooled Procurement Services, and predictable, member-state-driven financing for peace operations. Murwira underscored the need for institutional excellence, accountability, and a unified voice in resolving challenges through dialogue. He concluded by expressing Zimbabwe's appreciation for its election as a Non-Permanent Member of the United Nations Security Council for 2027-2028, viewing it as a regional mandate to advance African interests, and formally handed over the SADC Council of Ministers chairmanship to Ronald Lamola, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa.
