Namibian Prime Minister honors Fidel Castro and reaffirms solidarity with Cuba at centenary colloquium

He conveyed greetings from Her Excellency Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, First Female President of the SWAPO Party and of the Republic of Namibia, and the people of Namibia. The Prime Minister highlighted Namibia's unwavering solidarity with Cuba, referencing a unanimous parliamentary resolution and Namibia's inclusion among 136 countries calling for an end to the economic blockade on Cuba. He emphasized the historical bond between the two nations, forged during Namibia's struggle for independence, and recalled the contributions of Cuban internationalist combatants in southern Africa, particularly Operation Carlota, which he stated led to Namibia's independence in 1990 and contributed to ending apartheid in South Africa in 1994.

Dr. Ngurare condemned the ongoing US-imposed economic embargo on Cuba, describing it as a "silent genocide" and a humanitarian crisis. He urged the international community and the United Nations to ensure Cuba's freedom to live in peace and govern itself, and called for the lifting of the embargo. He reaffirmed Namibia's commitment to supporting Cuba, stating that Cuba stood with Namibia during its struggle and that Namibia will continue to stand by Cuba as a matter of principle and humanity.
