
Ivindo Economic Forum highlights Belinga mining project's role in Gabon's industrial ambitions
The Ivindo Economic Forum, held on August 26 in Makokou, focused on the Belinga mining project's potential to drive Gabon's economic transformation. Fortescue Belinga, the project's developer and strategic partner, participated through its CEO, Edward Kalajzic. He outlined a phased progression for the project, emphasizing technical studies, intensified exploration campaigns, and local skill development. Kalajzic stated that the Belinga project offers significant growth opportunities for Fortescue and has the potential to support Gabon's economic diversification. Advanced exploration work at Belinga includes over 225,000 meters of reverse circulation drilling and more than 17,500 meters of diamond drilling, aimed at defining mineral resources and assessing the deposit's potential. Exploration activities have expanded beyond Belinga to include Batouala and Boka Boka. Fortescue Belinga reports that the project currently supports 1,246 direct and indirect jobs, with Gabonese nationals accounting for 82.22% of the workforce, and 56.75% from the Ogoou茅-Ivindo province. The company is also investing in workforce training through the "We Train for Gabon" program. A first mineral shipment is anticipated by 2030, pending a final investment decision, further studies, and necessary authorizations.
