Gabon faces $330 million debt claim from Bosch Capital with threat to financial reputation
Bosch Capital, a South African fund, is demanding over $300 million from Gabon by September 3, 2026, for a debt originally owed to Paramount Group, an arms sales company. The fund, which acquired the rights to Paramount Group's claim, has warned Gabonese authorities that failure to pay could negatively impact the country's financial reputation. This threat extends beyond legal action, potentially affecting Gabon's sovereign risk perception among rating agencies, banks, and international investors. The debt stems from a 2014 contract between Gabon and Paramount Group for maintenance and support services for military equipment, with the current claim amounting to approximately $330 million, including accumulated sums and contentious developments. The relationship between Gabon and Paramount Group dates back to 2006-2007, involving the acquisition and maintenance of Mirage F1AZ aircraft. While Bosch Capital acquired the debt rights in June 2025, Gabonese authorities dispute the validity of the 2014 contract and the financial claims, viewing Bosch Capital's actions as maneuvers to secure payment for a contested debt. With the September 3 deadline approaching, Gabon faces a critical decision: negotiate a resolution, continue to dispute the debt, or risk international financial repercussions that could exceed the claimed amount.
