Nairobi County and KNCCI partner to streamline business operations and foster economic growth
The Nairobi City County Government and the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry KNCCI have formed a new partnership to reduce bureaucratic hurdles and enhance economic opportunities for businesses in the capital. This collaboration, unveiled on Friday, August 28, targets micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises MSMEs, artisans, and manufacturers. The initiative aims to lower compliance costs, simplify licensing, and create new avenues for capital and market access. A key component is the Trade Fair Digital Portal, an online platform for businesses to register as exhibitors, select sponsorship packages, and access logistics support for county trade activities. The partnership, anchored by the "Jenga Biz, Jenga Nairobi; Partnering for a Thriving Nairobi Economy" program, seeks to move the county government from a regulatory role to an active enabler of economic enterprise. KNCCI Programs Director Maxwell Okoth noted that the partnership will transition the relationship between government and the private sector from discussion to concrete action. A Memorandum of Understanding is being finalized to formalize the agreement and track progress on ease-of-doing-business reforms. A Business Breakfast Forum is scheduled for September 17 to precede a major trade fair, aiming to strengthen supply-chain linkages and improve access to capital for MSMEs, manufacturers, and artisans.
