Video: CCTV footage emerges capturing Senator Godfrey Osotsi being attacked by armed goons in Kisumu

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi was attacked by suspected goons at Java House in Kisumu on Wednesday, April 8. Siaya Governor James Orengo condemned the assault as a cowardly act to incite tribal conflict. CCTV footage revealed youths storming Java House and assaulting Senator Osotsi, who was seated with an unknown woman. One man in a black t-shirt and cap, joined by another in a white hood, was seen hitting and kicking the senator. Java House workers intervened, saving the senator and surrounding him as they pleaded with the youths. The incident occurred weeks after Senator Osotsi stated he would not contest the Orange Democratic Movement delegates’ decision to remove him from the deputy party leader role, a resolution passed on Friday, March 27. Senator Osotsi is aligned with ODM’s rebel wing, opposing Siaya senator Oburu Oginga. He dismissed the convention as illegitimate but would not pursue legal action.
