Morocco's legal cannabis market expands with 161 products, but medicinal drugs are still awaiting commercialization
Morocco's legal cannabis market has grown to include 161 commercialized products as of mid-July 2026, encompassing oils, capsules, creams, shampoos, and herbal teas. However, despite this expansion, no cannabis-derived medicines are yet available in pharmacies. The 161 products are categorized into 71 cannabidiol CBD food supplements, 73 cosmetic products, and 17 food products, primarily herbal teas. This clarification addresses a previous misunderstanding in early June when an announcement of over 140 cannabis-based products was sometimes interpreted as 140 medicines, leading to confusion among health professionals and consumers due to their absence from pharmacies. The Moroccan Consumer Protection Observatory had requested a public list detailing these products, their indications, and legal status. The new data confirms that current market offerings are not medicines. While a first cannabis extract medicine has received marketing authorization from the Moroccan Agency for Medicines and Health Products, it is not yet commercialized, pending administrative procedures. A second medicine is also undergoing registration.
