Union Bank of Nigeria achieves global payment data security certification

This certification, effective August 11, 2026, confirms that the bank's payment systems and processes adhere to rigorous international standards. The PCI DSS sets technical and operational requirements for securing environments where payment card data is stored, processed, or transmitted. The assessment covered various aspects of the bank's operations, including network infrastructure, card issuance, ATM and POS transaction acquiring, payment processing, reconciliation, settlement, chargeback, dispute resolution, and retail banking.

Union Bank was certified in the Service Provider category following a year-long assessment that involved quarterly reviews and participation from departmental, business, and functional heads across the bank, in collaboration with security firm Digital Encode. The final independent audit was conducted by CyberCube, an accredited Qualified Security Assessor. Yetunde Oni, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, stated that the security of customer information is central to Union Bank's operations, and this certification reaffirms their commitment to meeting global standards.

This renewal ensures the bank maintains continuous PCI DSS compliance, aligning with the Central Bank of Nigeria's requirements.
