UNICEF calls for universal access to water, sanitation, and hygiene for every Namibian child

The representative highlighted that while Namibia has made progress in providing basic water services to 93.9% of its population, disparities exist, with access ranging from 99.8% in Khomas to 77.3% in Kunene. Sanitation remains a significant challenge, with only 66.6% of Namibians having access to improved sanitation and 47.2% practicing open defecation, particularly in rural areas where 70.9% do so compared to 25.3% in urban areas. The speech underscored that these statistics represent children's health, education, safety, dignity, and rights.

The theme of the council, "Towards Universal Access to Water, Sanitation, Hygiene for Every Namibian Child," was praised for its focus on these critical issues. Junior Councillors were encouraged to use their platform to advocate for change, think beyond themselves, and consider the needs of all children, including those with disabilities or those struggling with access to basic necessities.
