Tunisia's Central Bank and Financial Market Council enhance cooperation for financial sector oversight
The Central Bank of Tunisia BCT and the Financial Market Council CMF signed a cooperation and information exchange agreement on September 1, 2026, to strengthen coordination between the two regulatory authorities. The agreement, signed by BCT Governor Fethi Zouhair Nouri and interim CMF College President Hatem Smiri, aims to improve financial sector surveillance, particularly in combating money laundering, monitoring financial institutions, digital finance, and green finance. This initiative seeks to establish closer cooperation between the regulators in a financial sector characterized by increasing activity integration and risk diversification. According to a CMF statement, this move responds to accelerating economic, financial, technological, and regulatory transformations, aiming for a more integrated surveillance approach that aligns national mechanisms with international standards and best practices in financial supervision. The convention also focuses on strengthening compliance in the fight against money laundering, terrorist financing, and proliferation financing, as well as developing technical cooperation and coordinating on-site controls.
