Tunisian League for Human Rights demands investigation into alleged torture of activist in Sousse

According to the LTDH, Amroussia endured treatment that violated his dignity and physical and psychological integrity during his 48-hour detention. The organization emphasized that torture, ill-treatment, and degrading treatment are serious human rights violations, regardless of the circumstances, and that detention does not suspend fundamental rights. The LTDH demands an immediate, independent, and impartial investigation to establish the facts and determine responsibilities.

They also requested that Amroussia receive an independent medical examination and necessary care, and that all evidence, including surveillance footage, arrest records, and medical reports, be preserved. The LTDH further insisted on protecting Amroussia from pressure or reprisals, safeguarding his integrity, dignity, privacy, and freedom of expression. This case arises amid repeated allegations by Tunisian and international human rights organizations concerning torture and ill-treatment in detention centers.
