Cheikh F., a 29-year-old man of Maghrebi origin, died on the night of July 14-15 near Avignon after being shot by a municipal police officer from Le Pontet. Initial reports suggested self-defense, but subsequent revelations from Libération and Mediapart contradict this account. The judicial investigation confirms that Cheikh F. was shot in the back while his vehicle was immobilized. The pursuit began around 2:30 AM when municipal police officers in Le Pontet noticed Cheikh F.'s car driving at high speed. After a 12-kilometer chase, his vehicle was trapped at the Vedène toll booth between several police cars. The police officer, Théo U., a 28-year-old former gendarme, opened fire during the approach to the immobilized vehicle. However, Théo U.'s testimony has inconsistencies, and he admitted uncertainty about his exact position and distance from Cheikh F. at the time of the shooting.
