Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya recounts escape from Homa Bay rally attack

Their vehicle, among the first to enter Homa Bay, was attacked, resulting in a punctured tire. Despite initial attempts to continue, the vehicle became immobilized. Natembeya and Wamboka abandoned the car and sought refuge in a private compound, which appeared to be an early childhood development center.

They were pursued by armed youths, allegedly carrying machetes and rungus. To escape, they jumped over a fence and ran into thick vegetation in the darkness, eventually finding transport to Kisumu. The incident occurred on Sunday, August 16, after the Linda Mwananchi team encountered blocked roads and armed groups upon arriving in Homa Bay.

Reports from the day indicated blocked roads and attacks on several vehicles, with initial reports of two deaths, including a police officer, and dozens injured. The reported death toll later increased to four.
