Ontario introduces new permanent residence program for foreign workers
Ontario has launched its new Workforce Priority Stream, offering eligible foreign workers a pathway to permanent residence through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program OINP. As of August 4, 2026, foreign nationals can register an Expression of Interest EOI linked to a qualifying job offer from an eligible Ontario employer. The stream includes three pathways: one for higher-skilled workers, one for lower-skilled workers, and another for self-employed physicians registered to practice in Ontario and eligible to bill the province鈥檚 public health insurance plan, OHIP. Candidates with active EOIs will be ranked using a points-based scoring system introduced on July 20, 2026, with invitations to apply issued through periodic draws. EOIs remain valid for up to 12 months. Invited candidates have 17 calendar days to submit a complete application, while employers must apply for employment position approval within 14 calendar days of the invitation. Successful job-offer nominees will receive a provincial support letter for a federal work permit while their permanent residence application is processed. Successful applicants under the higher-skilled worker and self-employed physician streams may also qualify to apply through the Enhanced Provincial Nominee Program linked to Express Entry for potentially faster processing.
