
Google offers Nigerian higher education students 12 months of free AI Plus access
Google has launched an initiative providing eligible students in Nigerian higher institutions with 12 months of free access to Google AI Plus, valued at โฆ92,400 per student. This offer, known as the Gemini Student Offer, is available to individuals aged 18 and above who are enrolled in accredited universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across Nigeria. Students who previously benefited can renew their subscription after verifying their status. The subscription includes access to advanced AI tools through the Gemini app, such as higher usage limits, Gemini Omni, Gemini Live for real-time voice conversations, Deep Research for academic projects, custom practice quizzes, unlimited file uploads, and 400GB of cloud storage. Nigeria is one of 27 Sub-Saharan African countries where this initiative has been launched. Olumide Balogun, Googleโs Director for West and East Africa, stated that the company aims to make AI-powered learning more accessible by removing financial barriers for students, emphasizing AI as a significant technological shift and a leapfrog opportunity for Nigeria's young population.
