Ousmane Sonko appointed president of Senegal's new Public Policy Evaluation Committee
The Senegalese National Assembly held the inaugural meeting of the Public Policy Evaluation Committee CEPP on Friday, August 21, 2026, marking a significant step in strengthening parliamentary oversight. The CEPP, established following the 2016 constitutional revision, aims to structure, conduct, and monitor parliamentary evaluations of public policies to enhance the oversight of public action and policy effectiveness. The committee comprises the President of the National Assembly, presidents of parliamentary groups, the representative of non-affiliated members, presidents of the 14 permanent commissions, and nine other deputies with their alternates. During this first meeting, the CEPP Bureau was formed, with Ousmane Sonko, President of the National Assembly, elected as its president. Mohamed Sall was appointed first vice-president, Djimo Souar茅 as second vice-president, B茅atrice Germaine Faye as first secretary, and Adama Diallo as second secretary. This committee's establishment is intended to give concrete dimension to parliamentary evaluation of public policies and reinforce the National Assembly's role in overseeing government actions.
