Nigerian national arrested in The Gambia with 9,020 ecstasy tablets and drug manufacturing machine
Celestine Godwin, a 53-year-old Nigerian national, has been arrested in The Gambia with 9,020 ecstasy tablets, suspected cannabis ruderalis, and a machine believed to be for manufacturing illicit drugs. The Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia DLEAG, announced the arrest, noting it is the first time the agency has discovered suspected drug-manufacturing equipment. This development raises concerns about the potential establishment of clandestine laboratories for synthetic drug production in the country. DLEAG stated that the seizure highlights the evolving nature of the region's drug trafficking threat and demonstrates the agency's commitment to disrupting both the movement of illicit substances and attempts to establish local drug production facilities. Godwin remains in custody as investigations continue to identify and dismantle any associated networks.
