Subsidy removal, naira floatation worsened life for Nigerians, says Makinde

Speaking in Abeokuta, Ogun State, during the unveiling of the APM deputy governorship candidate for the state, Mrs. Deborah Akinlade, and other candidates for the 2027 elections, Makinde stated that the simultaneous removal of fuel subsidy and floating of the naira has made life harder for Nigerians. He argued that no country, including advanced ones, could withstand such twin economic shocks without adequate cushioning measures. Makinde highlighted concerns over the rising cost of living, fluctuations in the foreign exchange market, and worsening insecurity.

He urged APM members to mobilize voters to "chase out" the APC-led government in 2027, emphasizing the APM's commitment to alleviating suffering and resetting Nigeria's economy and security. Ogun State Chairman of the APM, Abayomi Sanyaolu, rated the current federal government's performance at 35 percent and called on Nigerians to reject vote-buying. The party's governorship candidate in Ogun State, Rotimi Babajide, pledged to prioritize grassroots governance, food production, job creation, education, healthcare, and road infrastructure.
