Zambia coach Nora Häuptle on team's strategy against Malawi in WAFCON group stage
Zambia head coach Nora Häuptle stated her team will give their all in the final WAFCON group game against Malawi to secure a quarter-final spot. After a 6-0 victory over Egypt, Zambia lost to Nigeria, leaving Group C open with three teams vying for qualification. Nigeria's Asisat Oshoala scored an eighth-minute goal against Zambia, following Nigeria's 3-2 defeat to Malawi in their opening game. Both Zambia and Nigeria are currently on three points. Zambia will face Malawi, while Nigeria plays Egypt in the final group matches. Häuptle emphasized Zambia's commitment to beating Malawi, a result that could lead to all three teams finishing with six points if Nigeria also defeats Egypt. A loss for Zambia against Malawi, coupled with a draw or win for Nigeria against Egypt, could result in Zambia's elimination. Häuptle expressed regret over missed opportunities against Nigeria and attributed Nigeria's winning goal to a positional error by the goalkeeper. If three teams end with six points, the Confederation of African Football's regulations, including goal difference and other tie-breaking criteria, will determine which two teams advance to the quarter-finals.
