Patrick Vieira arrives in Dakar for official presentation as Senegal national team coach
Patrick Vieira, the new coach of the Senegal national football team, arrived at Blaise-Diagne International Airport AIBD in Dakar on Monday morning. He is scheduled for his official presentation on Tuesday, August 18, during a press conference. Vieira has reportedly signed a four-year contract with the Senegalese Football Federation FSF following the team's elimination from the 2026 World Cup. The Franco-Senegalese technician, born in Dakar, has previously coached New York City FC, Nice, Crystal Palace, Strasbourg, and Genoa. The FSF has set medium-term objectives for Vieira, including qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations final and participation in the 2030 World Cup. His appointment follows the dismissal of Pape Thiaw after Senegal's round of 16 exit in the 2026 World Cup against Belgium. The Tuesday event is expected to clarify details of his contract, staff, and the ambitions set for the new coach of the Lions.
