Senegal's National Assembly approves constitutional amendment on asset declarations for top officials

The proposed law, initiated by Deputy Amadou Bâ number 2 from the Pastef-Les Patriotes parliamentary group, passed with 133 votes in favor and two against, out of 135 total votes. Twelve of the 'yes' votes were cast by proxy. No abstentions were recorded.

The approved text, which includes government amendments, extends the requirement for public asset declarations to include the Prime Minister and the President of the National Assembly, in addition to the Head of State. The Constitutional Council will be responsible for making these declarations public. The two deputies who voted against the proposal were Thierno Alassane Sall and Mouhamadou Diaw, the deputy-mayor of Matam.
