Grand Magal of Touba generates over 375 billion FCFA in economic benefits, study finds
A joint study by Cheikh Ahmadoul Khadim University UCAK and Alioune Diop University of Bambey UADB indicates that the Grand Magal of Touba, a religious gathering, generates over 375 billion FCFA in economic benefits. This highlights the significant impact of the Magal on various sectors, including commerce, transport, accommodation, catering, and local services during the event period. Serigne Ahmadou Badawi Mback茅, president of the Cheikh Ahmadoul Khadim Complex CCAK, noted that this economic dynamic is continuously growing, confirming the Magal's potential as a strategic driver for economic and social development in Senegal. The study's findings scientifically support the view that religious and cultural tourism plays a structural role in the Senegalese economy, extending beyond its spiritual dimension. The Magal is thus presented not only as a time of contemplation and pilgrimage but also as a seasonal economic engine capable of boosting multiple sectors.
