Senegal ranks first in Africa for public statistics, according to World Bank

The country scored 81.4 out of 100, surpassing South Africa 81.3 points, Mauritius 80.4 points, and Egypt 78.1 points. This marks a significant improvement from its fourth-place ranking in 2022 and 2023. The evaluation, which covers 188 economies, assesses national statistical systems across five pillars: data use, accessibility, quality of statistical products, data sources, and infrastructure.

This recognition highlights the advancements of Senegal's national statistical system, particularly the efforts of the National Agency for Statistics and Demography ANSD, in improving public data governance and reliability. The achievement is considered strategically important for guiding public policies and fostering economic development. Authorities plan to build on this success by strengthening capacities, expanding national surveys, enhancing administrative data, and integrating new technologies into statistical processes.

This distinction coincides with the 20th anniversary of the ANSD and the reform of the national statistical system.
