Attack on Naridon village in northern Nigeria leaves at least 30 dead

The assailants stormed Naridon village around midnight on Sunday, opening fire and then burning homes and businesses. Residents accuse cattle herders of being responsible for the attack. Rubean James, a resident, reported hearing gunshots and escaping through a back door to hide.

Upon returning, he confirmed 31 people were killed and others injured. Another resident, Barnabas Musa, stated the attack lasted about three hours and that at least 30 bodies, including women and children, were collected. Amnesty International condemned the killings.

Community leader Yunusa Babados recounted that attackers entered homes, killing six children from one family while sparing the parents. He confirmed a total of eight children died in the village. The secretary to the chief of Dogon Rana village also confirmed the attack.

Residents said the assailants fled as security forces approached, leaving some cattle near the village. Northwestern and central Nigeria have experienced ongoing violence between herders and farmers, stemming from long-standing disputes over land and resources.
