Research Brigade intercepts 47 million FCFA in counterfeit bills, four suspects arrested in Toubab Dialaw
The Faidherbe Research Brigade, part of the Dakar gendarmerie company, intercepted 47.76 million FCFA in counterfeit currency and arrested four individuals in Toubab Dialaw on August 29, 2026. The operation followed an August 19 tip about a group possessing blackened materials resembling 100-dollar bills and seeking a "technician" for chemical treatment. Investigators infiltrated an agent posing as a "black bill washing" specialist, who met the suspects in Diamniadio before a second meeting was arranged in Toubab Dialaw. On August 28, the suspects went to an apartment in Toubab Dialaw for the alleged treatment. Following discreet surveillance, investigators intervened the next day, apprehending G.T., 46, a terracer; B.N., 37, a computer scientist; K.S., 32, a laborer; and A.D., 26, a footballer. Investigators seized blackened materials equivalent to 20.04 million FCFA at the scene. A search of G.T.'s home uncovered an additional 27.72 million FCFA in similar materials, bringing the total seized to nearly 47.76 million FCFA. Two vehicles, a white Ford Fusion and a Ford Escape, were also seized. The four suspects face charges of criminal association, attempted fraud, and possession of materials for counterfeiting banknotes. They were scheduled to appear before the public prosecutor on Monday.
