Rivers maritime workers issue ultimatum over Onne Port road conditions and E-Call Up levies

They threaten to shut down the port if the E-Call Up levies are not removed and the dilapidated internal roads are not fixed. Uche Ogbu, Chairman of the Maritime Union of Nigeria, Eastern Port, stated that the poor road conditions and the haphazard truck lining for E-Call Up levies are hindering business operations and endangering port users. He alleged that the Nigeria Port Authority NPA has not provided loading bays despite appeals.

The ultimatum expires on Monday, July 17th, after which they plan to cease operations and stop the E-Call Up system. Chief Ifeanyi Isikaku, Onne Chapter Chairman of ANLCA, urged the federal government to allocate a portion of the N487 billion revenue generated from Onne Port between January and July 2026 to maintain the access roads. He highlighted the issues of illegal truck parking and the NPA's failure to provide adequate facilities for the E-Call Up system.

The stakeholders resolved to end illegal truck parking, ensure road maintenance, and suspend the E-Call Up system until adequate holding bays are built, with this suspension taking effect on Monday, August 17th, 2026. Efforts to contact the NPA spokesperson for Onne Port were unsuccessful.
