Inspector General of Police deploys DIG to Osun State for governorship election security, warns against ballot snatching
The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has deployed Deputy Inspector General of Police Ishyaku Mohammed to Osun State to coordinate security operations for the governorship election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026. This deployment is part of the Nigeria Police Force's efforts to ensure a peaceful, secure, and credible election. DIG Mohammed will lead the police component of the election security arrangement, collaborating with other security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security. He will be supported by Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Commissioners of Police stationed across the state's three senatorial districts. The police have made arrangements to protect voters, Independent National Electoral Commission personnel, election materials, polling units, collation centers, accredited observers, and media practitioners. Inspector General Disu warned against electoral offenses such as ballot snatching, voter intimidation, and political thuggery, stating that offenders will face prompt arrest and prosecution.
