Rigathi Gachagua alleges ungazetted police station and senior officers target gas retailers

Gachagua stated that over 200,000 gas cylinders were seized without legal procedures between June and October 2025. Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, Gachagua named a deputy inspector general of police as the official who established the unit in June 2025, at Hulingharm, referring to it as the "Black Site." He alleged the unit was commanded by R.L.G. as OCS, supported by other officers and 25 constables, and operated under the private supervision of a private citizen, C.M., who he claimed regularly carried firearms during inspections.

Gachagua asserted that raids occurred in Nairobi, Kiambu, Kajiado, and Machakos counties, with cylinders transported in private vehicles and lorries, and no inventory, occurrence book entries, or court cases recorded. He further claimed some confiscated cylinders were channeled to private LPG enterprises linked to politicians and state actors, including a firm in Kitengela, and were seen distributed to residents during the Ol Kalou by-election. Gachagua called for the arrest and prosecution of a senior government official for abuse of office, the return of seized cylinders, compensation for affected traders, and the shutdown of the "Black Site" station.
