North Zawia Municipality demands investigation into Zawia refinery drone incident
The Municipality of North Zawia has called for an immediate and official investigation into a drone incident at the Zawia Oil Refinery. In the early hours of the morning, a drone struck a fuel tank, causing a leak of untreated naphtha. The Zawiya Refinery Company confirmed that its officials and employees quickly contained the situation, stopping the leakage, and reported no fires or injuries. The Municipality is demanding that authorities determine the drone's source and the party responsible for its launch, and hold accountable anyone found negligent. They also requested a technical and environmental assessment of the damage from the fuel leak to ensure no threats to citizens, workers, or the environment. Additionally, the Municipality urged urgent measures to secure the refinery and vital facilities to prevent future incidents. As of publication, there has been no official comment from Prime Minister Abdel Hamid Aldabaiba or his government regarding the incident.
