President Tinubu swears in Abel Enitan as new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation

Enitan formally assumed office following the retirement of his predecessor, Didi Walson-Jack, who reached the statutory retirement age of 60. The formal handover included the signing of official documents and the presentation of a handover note covering the period from August 14, 2024, to August 27, 2026. Enitan, from Osun State, was the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service, having served for seven years and seven months.

His previous roles included Permanent Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Education and service at the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, and the Office of the Vice President. President Tinubu appointed Enitan on August 19, 2026, with the appointment taking effect on August 27. Tinubu charged Enitan to consolidate reforms, deepen professionalism and efficiency, and build a more effective and responsive Civil Service that is professional, merit-driven, accountable, innovative, and responsive to Nigerians' needs.

The President also thanked Walson-Jack for her service and the reforms during her tenure. Enitan, born on December 12, 1966, holds a B.Sc. in Finance and Banking from the University of Lagos and an M.Sc. in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University.
