German minister's visit to Algeria focuses on Sahel, energy, and economic cooperation
Germany considers Algeria a strategic partner, particularly in energy and security policy, as highlighted by Federal Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul ahead of his visit to Tunis and Algiers. Algeria has become a key natural gas supplier for the European Union since 2022, with German distributor VNG signing agreements with Sonatrach. Further gas supply increases to Germany are expected from January 1, 2027. The partnership is also expanding into green hydrogen, leveraging Algeria's solar potential and proximity to Europe.
