GNV launches new direct ferry service between Italy and Annaba, Algeria
Italian shipping company GNV, a subsidiary of MSC, is expanding its presence in Algeria with a new direct ferry service connecting Civitavecchia, Italy, to Annaba, Algeria. Starting August 8, 2026, the route will offer two weekly departures, on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The ferry Cristal will operate the service, providing amenities tailored for North African travelers, including halal meals, a dedicated prayer room, and family-friendly facilities. This new line marks GNV's third route to Algeria, following two existing services from S猫te, France, to Algiers and B茅ja茂a, which launched in summer 2025. GNV transported 58,000 passengers on its Algerian routes between June and December 2025. Matteo Catani, GNV's General Manager, stated that the launch of the Civitavecchia鈥揂nnaba line continues the company's growth in Algeria, citing positive responses from the Algerian market in terms of passenger and freight traffic. Annaba was chosen as a regional hub due to its strategic location, which will facilitate passenger and goods flow to neighboring countries via land transport networks. GNV plans to continue investing in its fleet, increasing frequency, and developing customized services for the North African market, working with its official agent in Algeria, AFLT Maritime.
