
Nandi County to host Jitume Centre of Excellence, expanding digital opportunities for Kenyan youth
The Technopolis Development Authority inspected the ongoing construction of the Nandi County Jitume Centre of Excellence in Nandi Hills on August 1, 2026. This facility is part of a national government plan to establish one Centre of Excellence in every county across Kenya, complementing Nandi County's existing five Jitume Digital Hubs. Anthony Sang, Chief Manager for Construction Operations Management at the Technopolis Development Authority, stated that the project demonstrates the government's commitment to broadening digital access and skilling for young Kenyans. Once complete, the centre will offer collaborative workstations, e-commerce spaces, studios, and learning centres with high-speed internet. It aims to build capacity in areas such as artificial intelligence, robotics, software development, cloud computing, cybersecurity, data analytics, and digital content creation. Sang emphasized that the Centre of Excellence is a long-term investment in Kenya's digital economy, designed to equip young people with advanced digital skills, foster innovation, and support entrepreneurship, enabling them to convert ideas into viable businesses. This initiative seeks to prepare Kenyan youth for the global digital economy, create employment opportunities, and promote inclusive economic development.
