President Ruto outlines benefits for 106,000 village elders, including KSh 3,000 stipend and health insurance
President William Ruto announced a package of benefits for 106,000 village elders across Kenya, formally integrating them into the National Government Administration system. Speaking at State House Nairobi, Ruto confirmed a KSh 3,000 monthly stipend would begin immediately. He also directed Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi to budget for Social Health Authority premiums for village elders, targeting January 2027 for the start of coverage. Beyond financial support, the President stated that village elders would receive smartphones for administrative duties and undergo training in artificial intelligence and digital literacy. This initiative aims to strengthen security at the grassroots level and fulfill the social and economic rights outlined in Article 43 of the Constitution.
