President Mahama pledges stronger state-church partnership as Donkorkrom gets first bishop

This assurance was conveyed by Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, at the installation of Most Reverend John Alphonse Asiedu, SVD, as the first Bishop of the new Catholic Diocese of Donkorkrom. Afriyie-Ankrah described the occasion as historic, marking a new chapter for the Catholic faithful in Donkorkrom, the Afram Plains, and surrounding communities. He congratulated Bishop Asiedu and the Catholic Church in Ghana on this significant milestone, acknowledging the Church's contributions to Ghana's development through education, healthcare, social services, vocational training, peacebuilding, and the promotion of justice and human dignity.

Afriyie-Ankrah emphasized that national development involves not only infrastructure but also values, discipline, integrity, compassion, and service, stating that government alone cannot build the desired Ghana. He highlighted President Mahama's commitment to deepening collaboration with all faith communities for national development, stressing that religious diversity should unite rather than divide. He expressed confidence that Most Rev Asiedu would lead the new Diocese with humility, wisdom, and compassion, strengthening faith, uniting communities, and inspiring the younger generation.
