Egyptian Foreign Minister emphasizes Sudan's unity and rejects parallel entities
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty stressed the importance of preserving Sudanβs unity and territorial integrity, supporting its national institutions, and rejecting the establishment of parallel entities. During a phone call with Annette Weber, the European Unionβs Special Representative for the Horn of Africa, Abdelatty underscored the need for a Sudanese-owned political process to end the conflict. The discussion also covered regional developments, support for security, stability, and development, and preparations for the Berlin Ministerial Conference on Sudan on April 15. The Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of a humanitarian truce as a first step towards a sustainable ceasefire, enabling humanitarian aid delivery and alleviating suffering. He condemned violations against civilians as a breach of international humanitarian law and stressed the need to protect civilians and vital infrastructure. Both sides highlighted the importance of enhanced coordination and cooperation to promote security, stability, and development in the Horn of Africa, especially amid regional tensions, and stressed supporting national institutions. Abdelatty reaffirmed Egyptβs commitment to supporting Somalia, including capacity-building efforts to strengthen security and stability, particularly in addressing terrorism and extremism. He also emphasized the need for sustainable funding for the African Union Mission in Somalia AMISOM to enable it to effectively carry out its mandate.
