NPP calls for Sedina Attionu's sentence to stand and suspension of Pre-Bar programme
The New Patriotic Party NPP has urged the government to ensure the prison sentence of former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre MASLOC Chief Executive, Sedina Christine Tamakloe Attionu, is upheld without interference. The party also demanded the suspension of the newly introduced Pre-Bar programme. In a statement signed by Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi, Co-Chair of the NPP Constitutional and Legal Affairs Policy Committee and Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem Central, the NPP expressed concerns about what it termed selective justice and disregard for legal processes. The party argued that the handling of Attionu鈥檚 case and the implementation of the Legal Education Act, 2026 Act 1170, raise questions about the government's commitment to the rule of law. Attionu was convicted and sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment in April 2024, following charges in 2019 for stealing, money laundering, causing financial loss to the state, and procurement breaches. She was extradited from the United States on June 9, 2026, to begin her sentence. While acknowledging the right to appeal, the NPP cautioned against any extra-judicial intervention. Additionally, the NPP criticized the mandatory one-year Pre-Bar Course under Act 1170, describing it as unlawful, and called for its suspension, the establishment of the Council for Legal Education and Training, and the implementation of necessary regulations. The party also accused state security agencies of targeting political opponents and discontinuing c
