Peter Obi criticizes religious leaders, judiciary, and electoral system at democracy dialogue

Obi stated that religious leaders are praying for "criminal politicians," which he views as a sign of Nigeria's crisis. He also highlighted declining standards within the judiciary and electoral processes. The former Anambra State governor recounted his own experience of spending three years in court challenging an election, noting that five judges he had never met ruled in his favor, a scenario he believes would not occur in contemporary Nigeria.

Obi further criticized the weakening of electoral safeguards, alleging that lawmakers have removed forgery as an electoral offense and that lawyers are defending forgery cases. He warned that these abuses would negatively impact future generations and called for a reversal of these trends. The dialogue's theme was "Beyond elections, can political parties and the judiciary save African democracy?"
