President Tinubu calls for national unity and dialogue in Nigeria
President Bola Tinubu, represented by Deputy President of the Senate Barau Jibrin, urged Nigerians to maintain national unity through dialogue despite differences. Speaking at an International Conference on Security and National Unity, President Tinubu emphasized the government's commitment to addressing security challenges and promoting global peace. He also commended the Muslim World League for partnering with Jama鈥檃tu Izalatil Bid鈥檃h Wa Iqamatus Sunnah JIBWIS to host the conference in Nigeria. National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, warned political leaders against exploiting religion and ethnicity, stressing that Nigeria's diversity should be a source of strength. He shared his experience as a displaced person during the Bauchi crisis, highlighting that violence affects everyone regardless of their faith. Yilwatda urged politicians to resist weaponizing religion and ethnicity, and called on religious leaders to promote peace and reconciliation. The Nigeria Inter-Religious Council NIREC also advised Nigerians to reject attempts to use religion, ethnicity, and poverty to create division. Executive Secretary of NIREC, Prof. Cornelius Omonokhua, stated that humanity is the common bond among citizens and that religion should not justify violence. The Sultan of Sokoto and co-Chairman of NIREC, Muhammad Sa鈥檃d Abubakar III, called for better implementation of agreements and urged Christians and Muslims to refrain from insulting each other.
