New York student supports safe water access for two Akuapem North schools
Jahzara Boateng, a 16-year-old student from Saint Catharine Academy in New York, USA, has provided polytanks to Kwamoso Presbyterian Basic School and Otareso MA Basic School in Ghana's Akuapem North Municipality. This initiative, called the โSafe Water Project,โ aims to improve water storage and access for the schools. The project was carried out in collaboration with As I Grow Organization AIG, a Ghanaian nonprofit. Gutters and pipes were also constructed to facilitate rainwater harvesting. Jahzara Boateng stated that children in underserved communities deserve access to water for drinking and school activities, and this project reflects her desire to improve children's welfare. Headteachers Annolf Obuo Anhwiren of Otareso MA Basic School and George Koranteng of Kwamoso Presbyterian Basic School, along with pupils and School Management Committees, expressed gratitude for the support. AIG highlighted that inadequate water infrastructure affects hygiene, health, and learning environments, and this collaboration demonstrates how young people can contribute to development challenges.
