Canada outlines five permanent residency options for doctors
Canada has highlighted five permanent residency pathways for medical doctors seeking to relocate and practice in the country, as announced by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. These options are based on qualifications, language proficiency, and preferred destination. Physicians can apply through the Express Entry system, which uses a points-based selection process considering age, education, work experience, and language ability. Securing a valid job offer or provincial nomination can enhance a candidate's chances. The Provincial Nominee Program allows provinces and territories to nominate skilled workers, including doctors, to address local labor shortages, with a provincial nomination adding 600 points to an applicant's Comprehensive Ranking System score. Doctors may also apply via the Atlantic Immigration Program, covering Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador, requiring a job offer from a designated employer. The Rural Community Immigration Pilot aims to attract skilled workers to smaller communities with workforce shortages, offering a pathway for doctors willing to work in rural areas.
