ODM condemns Homa Bay rally violence, lists 34 injured and one killed

ODM Secretary General Catherine Omanyo, MP, confirmed that police driver constable Jim Richardson Okundi was killed during the incident. The party released a list of 24 civilians and 10 security personnel who sustained injuries, with several civilians suffering gunshot wounds and others fractures and cut wounds. The ODM leadership extended sympathies to the injured and their families.

Omanyo stated that no political gathering should lead to violence, intimidation, or disruption of citizens' rights. The party called for prompt and impartial investigations by security and investigative agencies, demanding accountability for those responsible regardless of political affiliation. ODM also warned against collective punishment and urged political formations to exercise restraint, asserting that the party will not support violence as a means of acquiring or retaining political leadership.

The statement emphasized that political differences should be resolved through democratic engagement. Separately, the National Cohesion and Integration Commission NCIC summoned Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma over alleged inflammatory remarks made before the rally.
