Autopsy reveals Eric Muiruri died from two gunshot wounds, family disputes police account
An autopsy conducted at Nairobi Funeral Home confirmed that Eric Muiruri, killed in Githurai, died from two gunshot wounds. Pathologist Bernard Midia found that one bullet entered and exited, while another passed through his chest and abdomen, damaging internal organs. Midia also noted other visible injuries around the time of death. Vocal Africa CEO Hussein Khalid, present at the autopsy, stated that the bullet trajectory suggested the shooter was at a higher elevation than Muiruri, which he said was inconsistent with Muiruri standing. This finding, according to Khalid, supports the mother's claim that Muiruri was kneeling when shot. Police had stated Muiruri was shot during a pursuit after allegedly robbing a passenger. However, his mother, Joyce Njoki, maintains her son was shot while on his knees, begging for his life, following a confrontation with a club manager who then called the police. Njoki further alleged that officers attempted to incriminate her son by planting items after the shooting. The autopsy findings have led to calls for a full investigation, with the family asserting the postmortem evidence supports their version of events over the police narrative.
