Osun APC demands arrests following nephew's killing, parties exchange accusations
The All Progressives Congress APC campaign council for the Osun governorship election has called for the arrest of those responsible for the death of Oladele Ayegbo, nephew of the council's Director-General, Oluwole Oke. Remi Omowaiye, Head of Media and Publicity for the council, stated that the party has lost approximately 40 members to extrajudicial killings in recent weeks and accused suspected individuals associated with the Accord Party of attacking APC members. Omowaiye detailed several incidents, including the shooting of Ayegbo Oladale and Taiwo Oluwadele near Oluwole Oke's family compound, resulting in Ayegbo's death. He also mentioned an attack on an associate of Sanya Omirin and three others. Omowaiye accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of inaction. In response, Oladele Bamiji, spokesperson for the Osun Accord Party, dismissed the allegations, suggesting the APC look within its own ranks for perpetrators and stating that their party conducts peaceful campaigns. Governor Adeleke condemned the killing in Esa-Oke and property destruction, offering condolences to victims' families. He directed security agencies to investigate and apprehend those responsible, attributing the incident to reckless political incitement. Adeleke also expressed sympathy for over 15 Accord members reportedly killed and others whose homes were raided, urging political leaders to avoid actions that incite violence and advocating for a peaceful election.
