Ghanaian crown prince becomes Canadian Catholic monk
Brother Francis Acheampong, a Ghanaian Catholic monk with the Franciscan Friars of Canada, shared his journey of leaving his royal inheritance to pursue a religious life. He recounted how his childhood experience as an altar boy fostered a deep love for the Catholic faith. Despite having plans to become a lecturer, marry, and inherit the throne of his Akan Royal Family, he felt a calling to serve God. Brother Francis explained that he decided to become a Franciscan Friar after being inspired by videos of St. Francis of Assisi. His decision was met with disapproval from family and friends, who viewed it as a waste of a golden opportunity, but he felt compelled to follow his spiritual calling.
