Nigerian Senate President Akpabio assures 2027 campaigns will not disrupt National Assembly duties

Speaking to journalists at the Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo, Akpabio stated that lawmakers are capable of balancing their political activities with their constitutional duties. He dismissed concerns that electioneering could affect government responsibilities, emphasizing that legislative work would continue uninterrupted. Akpabio highlighted that members are elected for four years and will work for that duration, noting that campaigns can be scheduled around legislative sessions.

His comments follow a meeting where President Bola Tinubu, Akpabio, and Governor Umo Eno were endorsed for another term in 2027. The Senate President reiterated that electioneering and legislative duties are distinct and that the parliament's work would not be affected.
