Kaduna State's internally generated revenue reaches N85bn under Governor Uba Sani
Jerry Adams, the outgoing Executive Chairman of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service, attributed the growth in the state's Internally Generated Revenue IGR to Governor Uba Sani's political will and non-interference. Speaking at the 160th meeting of the Joint Revenue Board, Adams stated that the IGR increased from N58bn before 2023 to N85bn in 2025, with the state now trending towards an annual collection of N120bn. He noted that earlier revenue growth between 2019 and 2023, which saw a high of N59bn in 2022, largely stemmed from back-duty recoveries, sale of government properties, and other one-off recoveries, rather than organic tax base expansion. This led KADIRS to shift its strategy from squeezing existing taxpayers to expanding the tax net. The agency implemented full digitization with the PAYKADUNA portal and Project C.R.A.F.T. to block leakages, recruited additional personnel, and established more area offices. Collaboration with institutions like the Joint Revenue Board and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit also helped identify previously undetected taxable activities. Adams reported that tax compliance in the state rose from about 30 percent to approximately 65 percent, attributing this to increased trust between taxpayers and the government. He emphasized that the improved revenue performance is a broader governance success involving various stakeholders.
