Kwankwaso warns poor performance by northern governors could hinder 2027 election campaigns
Rabiu Kwankwaso, the Vice Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress and former Kano State Governor, stated that controlling numerous governors will not guarantee victory in the 2027 general election. Speaking at an NDC Town Hall Meeting in Rivers State, Kwankwaso claimed that many governors, particularly in the North, have performed so poorly that they would struggle to campaign for their parties. He cited past elections where incumbent governments lost despite controlling several states, cautioning against relying on the number of controlled states as a political strategy. Kwankwaso also criticized the management of public funds by state governors and the Federal Government, noting a significant increase in revenues compared to previous years without a corresponding positive impact on Nigerians' lives. He highlighted that public anger is rising due to poor governance and persistent insecurity, especially in Northern Nigeria.
