Nigerian Army begins operations at four new divisions to enhance security

This restructuring aims to boost operational capacity and improve the fight against insecurity across the country. New division headquarters are being established in Benue, Kwara, and Taraba states, with a fourth formation in Edo State. The initiative seeks to decentralize command, quicken tactical responses, and effectively address security threats like banditry, kidnapping, communal clashes, and terrorism, particularly in the North-Central and North-East regions.

This expansion will be supported by the planned recruitment of 28,000 additional personnel, along with improved logistics, equipment, and welfare packages for troops. In Kwara State, a new battalion has been deployed to Omu-Aran, with another planned for Patigi, to address rising security concerns. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq welcomed the deployment, thanking the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu, and President Tinubu for their support.

In Benue State, an implementation committee is assessing locations for the new 5 Division, expected to be headquartered in Makurdi, to counter communal clashes and armed groups. Taraba State is preparing for the operational take-off of the 10 Division, with construction of its permanent barracks underway in Yali, near Jalingo.
