Three abductors of Ogun poly students killed in gun battle
The Nigeria Police Force confirmed that three suspected kidnappers were neutralized in a gun duel with security operatives after abducting five students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Sapaade, Ogun State. Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, stated that the police anti-kidnapping unit and Department of State Security operatives trailed the kidnappers to their hideout following the rescue of the victims. During the confrontation, three suspects were killed, while others escaped with gunshot injuries. One AK-47 rifle, one empty magazine, three mobile phones, and N2.3 million were recovered. The State Criminal Investigation Department has initiated further investigation. Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, had previously declared that kidnappers would have no hiding place in the state, emphasizing his administration's commitment to protecting lives and property. The rescue operation involved multiple security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, Armed Forces, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ogun State Security Network Agency Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes, and hunters. The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, also approved the deployment of a police helicopter for aerial surveillance, which played a crucial role in the rescue.
