Nigeria Police invite VeryDarkMan over officers' alleged kidnap links

The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, stated that the police took note of Otse's comments at a recent Nigerian Bar Association conference in Port Harcourt. VeryDarkMan alleged that officers at checkpoints identify wealthy travelers and relay their information to kidnappers, facilitating abductions for ransom. The police described these allegations as serious, unsubstantiated, and damaging to the institution, demanding evidence from Otse.

They assured that any evidence would be urgently and thoroughly investigated, urging the public to report misconduct through appropriate channels rather than relying on public allegations. The police maintained that officers at checkpoints are deployed to prevent crime and protect citizens, often confronting criminal elements and suffering casualties in the line of duty. They also stated that individual officers found to have compromised their duties would face disciplinary measures and prosecution, but cautioned against blanket accusations that could demoralize personnel and undermine public trust.
